Answer questions about your studies. MetaLab will recommend a method based on your answers. It will then give you a matching CSV template and run the analysis in R inside this browser. You can download the plots, results, and R scripts.
It is recommended that you check your analysis plan with your supervisor.
Example loaded: every answer and 12 simulated studies are filled in. Step through with Next to see why each choice was made, or go straight to step 5 to run it.
Step 1 of 6
Review question
Step 2 of 6
Can the studies be combined?
Answer from how the studies were designed and reported, not from their results.
What if the studies should not be pooled?
A systematic review can report study results in a structured synthesis without one pooled number. Clarify the outcome, comparison and time point, separate studies that answer different questions, and get advice for related rows. Random effects allows for differences between studies, but it can’t make an average meaningful if the studies don’t share a question.
Step 3 of 6
Method
Other methods (not recommended for your answers)
Use another method only if your protocol specified it. Each one says why it is not the recommendation and when it can be used.
Your selected method stays the main result. Don’t switch methods because one gives a more favourable result.
Funnel plot and small-study-effect test (optional)
An asymmetric plot does not prove publication bias, and a non-significant test does not rule it out.
For 81% entered as 0.81, choose 2 decimal places. MetaLab works out the counts only when exactly one whole number fits.
Keep the column names. Enter one independent study per row. Fill the template in Excel, save it as CSV, then upload it here. Do not upload data about individual participants.

Labels and comparison values
Only enter values you chose before seeing the results. Each p-value tests a difference in either direction; it does not show that the test is clinically acceptable.
Step 5 of 6
Run meta-analysis
The first time, your browser downloads R and the metafor package. This can take a minute or more on slow Wi-Fi. Proportion and diagnostic analyses download one more package when you run them.
R has not started yet.

Times include downloads. A second start may be faster because the browser can reuse its cache.
